2024 Lamborghini Huracán replacement to receive hybrid-assisted V10

The V10 will live on in the upcoming Lamborghini Huracán replacement, set for a 2024 reveal

Lamborghini Huracan

The Lamborghini model lineup is set to see some dramatic changes over the coming years, with long-standing favourites meeting their end and electrification making its way to each and every car the firm builds. Though its reveal is still a couple of years away, bosses have confirmed a few exciting details for the much-anticipated Huracán replacement.

We’re not due to see the entry-level supercar in full until 2024, but ahead of the release of Lamborghini’s latest financials, company CEO Stephan Winkelmann spoke to our sister title Auto Express about the upcoming project. Though he wouldn’t confirm if it would utilise a variant of the 5.2-litre unit found in the current car, Winkelmann did reveal that the new hybrid-assisted powertrain would employ a new combustion engine from Lamborghini. With company CTO Rouven Mohr previously revealing that it would come equipped with ‘more than six and less than 12 cylinders,’ it’s safe to say that we’ll see a hybrid-assisted V10 in the new model.

Unlike with the current Huracán, Lamborghini will no longer be able to platform-share with the Audi R8 following that car’s discontinuation. Details are few and far between at this stage, but Winklemann did confirm that the model would instead be closely related to the next-generation Aventador.

While the Urus SUV is set to receive substantial electrification in the coming years for both efficiency and performance, company bosses are keen to stress that the same can’t be said for its sports cars. Speaking about the Huracán replacement, Winkelmann said: ‘It’s not a range-oriented hybrid and there will be no kind of downsizing,’ adding that Lamborghini is strictly against compensating for a reducing engine size with hybrid assistance.

Details are promising at this early stage then, but we have some time to wait until the new car’s 2024 debut, with the next-generation Aventador due first…
