Limited-run Maserati GranTurismo Trofeo PrimaSerie revealed

PrimaSerie to kick off GranTurismo production and celebrate 75 years of Maserati GTs

Maserati has wasted no time revealing a limited-run special edition of its new GranTurismo, debuting the Trofeo PrimaSerie that celebrates 75 years of Maserati’s GT models. The special edition will be limited to 150 units, split evenly between the two available colour options. No UK pricing or availability has been specified, and they will only be available as petrol-powered Trofeo-spec models.

The GranTurismo Trofeo PrimaSerie will be available in two specific colour and trim packages, the first being finished in matt silver contrasted with red highlights around the standard badging and 20- and 21-inch wheels.

The second specification is finished in black, highlighted by subtler green details around the badging and wheels. Inside the cabin, both models have two-tone black and ice white upholstery, with corresponding red or green detailing used in the stitching, embroidered badging and dash-mounted Maserati signature.

Both of these models leverage Maserati’s Furioserie personalisation department that’s been setup to offer a similar service to Porsche’s Exclusive Manufaktur or Ferrari’s Tailor Made programs. Keen to express how extreme this personalisation process can go, Maserati’s been known to show off some wild combinations of colour and trim options, something that’s been kept relatively restrained in the case of these two specials.

Underneath the unique colour and trim elements, the GranTurismo’s high-spec Trofeo powertrain has not been meddled with, still producing 542bhp from a wet-sump version of Maserati’s twin-turbocharged Nettuno V6 engine. The same can be said for its eight-speed automatic transmission and clever torque-vectoring all-wheel drive system, both of which help it reach 62mph in just 3.5sec.

We won’t have to wait long to see if the GranTurismo is able to channel some of the brilliance from the excellent and eCoty-winning MC20 supercar, but if it’s anything like as charismatic, Maserati might just be onto another winner.
