Renaultsport Twingo Gordini 133 review

Renault Twingo Gordini gets classic racing livery, non-cup chassis

Yes, we've tested a Gordini Twingo already (see here). That car was equipped with the optional Cup chassis, and we liked it a lot, though no more than the vanilla 133 Cup, which is cheaper by more than £3000.

This car doesn’t have the Cup tweaks, making it £410 cheaper, but it does have the larger wheels as standard – upgraded from 16in to 17in. Unfortunately they feel slightly mismatched with the non-Cup chassis.

So there are two reasons you might buy this Twingo: either you really like the colour Malta Blue or you have a particular affinity with the name Gordini and desperately feel the need to have it back in your life. If neither of those particularly bothers you then you might as well stick to a standard Twingo 133, add the snazzier radio for £280 and save yourself a whopping £1370 over the price of this Gordini version.

The Gordini name is a wonderful one and the livery is iconic, but we can’t help thinking Renault should have created a car that was more than just a styling exercise.
