Vauxhall Zafira GSi

Now I know it's not likely, but if I ever got invited onto Paul Merton's Room 101 TV programme, the very first thing I'd dispose of would be cars that don't start. There's nothing more frustrating than filling the car with kids and belting everyone in ready to get them to nursery school on time only for the bloody thing to refuse to move.

I'm afraid it's an affliction that has befallen the Zafira of late. Chee was the first to experience it, then Damian encountered the same problem and, after swearing at it for a while, finally got the GSi started so that he could take it to Vauxhall dealer York, Ward & Rowlatt in Wellingborough for attention. Helpfully they told him there was nothing wrong with it, which is why a few days later I had to call on the services of the AA when yet again it got the sulks.

The very nice man had it fixed inside a minute, saying he'd seen the problem before. Apparently the immobiliser chip in the key goes nuts if there is any static electricity around. A quick wipe over with his rubber glove was all that was required to get it going again. Well, that was until the next day, when it did it again. While we waited for a new key to be sent, it looked like we'd all be driving the Zafira in Marigolds, which isn't exactly 'daddy cool'.

But then Andy Morgan took the Zafira for a sunny weekend and had no starting troubles at all. Confidence inflated, he then used it as transport to a rainy photo shoot and, guess what? He was left stranded. Our patience was at an end and the Zafira has now gone to Vauxhall HQ to be fixed.
