Renault Sport Clio 172

The Clio kept some pretty special company this month. I was lucky enough to be the man sitting in the passenger seat of the Edonis as it ripped up the Bentwaters runway and between runs the Clio got a good workout - both in a straight line and mucking around on the few bends to be found. It certainly wasn't as dramatic as the monster supercar but it was such good fun that the well-worn tyres were soon cut to ribbons.

Whilst there I managed to re-figure the Clio now that it's nicely loosened up but still couldn't match the previous shape 172's times. Sixty came up in seven seconds dead and we romped past 100mph in 18.9 seconds - respectively four tenths and seven tenths behind Meaden's old long-termer but notably quicker than our previous efforts in the revised Clio.

Camden Renault of Northampton has now fitted the new exhaust centre section and the annoying resonance has been banished. Unfortunately the air vents and glovebox lid still buzz at almost any speed. But then, this Clio has led a very hard life.
