Toyota MR2 Roadster

The thing I like about the MR2 is that it does exactly what it's designed for. No flashiness, no over-selling, just brilliant. Nothing has failed or fallen off, the engine hasn't used a drop of oil and I haven't even had to top up the washer fluid. Its low weight means it handles like a proper sports car should and it's light on fuel, tyres and brakes. The soft-top takes a matter of seconds to lower from the driver's seat and the interior is solid and functional.

The longer I spend with the car the more I like it. Even after nabbing the keys to a 911 Turbo for the weekend when no-one was looking, getting back into the MR2 still felt good if a little slow, but what wouldn't after a 450bhp motor?

The MR2 has had its first 10,000-mile service, and what a contrast the Toyota dealership was to the Renault dealership where our Clio Cup recently had its 30,000-mile service. Sims Toyota of Northampton had plenty to entertain: TV, internet, drinks, newspapers, and even a games console in its pleasant, quiet waiting area. The Renault outfit didn't even have a water cooler!

It would have been a gold star to Toyota for another fine job had I not had to wait almost two hours for what they said was a 'while you wait' service, but at least I didn't get thirsty.
