Bentley GT Coupe

This is our first glimpse of the revolutionary new Bentley, currently known as the GT Coupe within Crewe. It shows a radically different profile to the current cars, having more in common with classics like the
1952 R-type Continental. Dirk van Braeckel, Bentley's director of design, said the profile shot showed the muscularity captured by great Bentley design: 'Like skin stretched over muscle, like a thoroughbred racehorse. The GT calls upon these cues. I can tell you that it will have a proper face, a laser-cut grille recalling the Le Mans cars of 70 years ago, and it will have twin headlamps, to confirm its sporting character. It will be very beautiful.'

evo can tell you it will have the W12 engine from the new Audi A8 but fitted with twin turbos. That will give the new Bentley over 500bhp and 600lb ft of torque. The car will also feature, for the first time in a Bentley, a four-wheel-drive chassis that shares components with the new A8, set
to be released later this year.

A Bentley spokesperson claimed the new coupe could tempt people out of sports cars like the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 when it's launched in early 2003.
