Lancia Fulvia lives!

Fulvia-style coupe ‘likely’; Lancia returning to UK in 2008

In an interview with evo contributing editor John Simister, Lancia’s overall boss and Fiat Auto’s CEO, Sergio Marchionne, strongly hinted that, despite earlier denials, the company could well build a modern interpretation of the Fulvia coupe.

Of the gorgeous concept car first seen three years ago (above), Marchionne claimed: ‘We never said we would not make it. The next likely project after the HPE [about which more in a moment] is a model that will appear like the Fulvia. Stay tuned – you will be pleasantly surprised.’

Marchionne made the statement at the launch of the Delta HPE concept (left), a production version of which is due to go on sale in 2008, derived from the forthcoming Fiat Stilo replacement, the Bravo.

A right-hand-drive version of the Delta HPE will spearhead Lancia's return to the UK market, an arena it ducked out of in 1994, although in Britain the car will initially be sold through 20 Alfa dealers.

However, unlike the Beta HPE from which it gets its name, the Delta HPE is likely to be more luxurious than sporty.
