Dodge Viper: Viper uprated to 600bhp
More powerful SRT10 has Chevrolet Corvette Z06 in its sights
Chrysler – wearing its Dodge hat – is taking the all-American muscle-car war to the door of the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 with an uprated version of the Viper SRT10.
Now boasting 600bhp from its all-alloy V10, not only is it a whole 100bhp more powerful than the model it replaces, but it also easily eclipses the 505bhp of the Z06.
Chrysler has worked in conjunction with McLaren Performance Technologies and Ricardo to liberate the additional power. The engine capacity has been increased from 8.3 litres to 8.4, and the top end has been fitted with electronically adjustable variable valve timing. The freshly invigorated engine generates more heat than its predecessor, so the 2008 model year Viper gets a ventilated bonnet that also features a large air scoop.
Performance claims include 0-60mph in less than 4sec and 0-100mph-0 in just over 12.
