Spyker: Zagato'd Spyker

C12 Zagato marks Dutch manufacturer's arrival in Formula 1

To celebrate Spyker's recent entry into Formula 1, the Dutch sports car maker has teamed up with Italian design house Zagato to make this, the limited edition C12 Zagato.

Although based on Spyker's flagship C12, the car has been heavily reworked by the legendary Italian design house. It must have been a difficult brief - the car has hints of the Zagato style (such as the dramatically truncated tail), design cues from the Spyker F8-VII Formula 1 car (the centre-lined nose, wing mirrors, air scoop, fuel flap, diffuser and even a rear 'rain light'), and also brings in some of the distinctive Spyker road-car markers (the propeller-blade wheels, for example).

Fitted with the Volkswagen Group's 6-litre W12 engine, the C12 Zagato has 500bhp as standard, although for those who think the 3.8sec 0-60mph time and 193mph top speed seem a little too sedate, Spyker is also considering a supercharger option to push power up to 650bhp. The car is available as either a six-speed manual or as an automatic - with F1-style paddle-shifters, naturally.

Spyker has announced that it will make just 24 of the £335,000 C12 Zagatos. The first cars are expected to be delivered in March 2008.
