This is the second instalment of AMG’s new ultra-hardcore Black Series: the CLK63 AMG Black.
Launched at the New York show, it's basically a road-going version of the F1 pace car. With power now up to 500bhp (from the 'regular' CLK63's 474bhp) and with slightly shorter gearing, its 0-60mph time drops to just 4.1sec. Top speed goes up to a still-limited 186mph.
There's certainly no mistaking the Black’s serious intent, thanks to its flared carbonfibre arches, 19in rims and massive 14.2in composite front discs.
Inside, the rear seats are junked, so the car becomes a strict two-seater. Much of the trim disappears too, with carbonfibre adorning most of the remaining surfaces.
First deliveries are expected in June. Mercedes is remaining tight-lipped on price, but don’t expect much change from £75,000.
