Special Koenigseggs

Track-biased CCX and CCXR offer exclusivity and unique spec – at a price

K oenigsegg is set to release limited-run special-edition versions of its CCX and CCXR supercars.

Bearing the name ‘Edition’, they will be more track-focused than the models on which they are based, coming with stiffer springs, retuned dampers and uprated anti-roll bars to tighten up the handling, and a larger, fully adjustable rear wing, a more aggressive front splitter and revised side strakes to increase downforce.

The Editions also get a new forged-alloy wheel design and are available with a lacquered bare carbonfibre finish for the bodywork. They also introduce a new instrument layout known as the ‘Chronograph’, which made its debut at the 2007 Geneva show (evo 104).

Neither Edition will offer an increase in power, so it’s still 888bhp for the CCX and 1018bhp for the CCXR – when it’s running on E85 biofuel.

Priced at 1,330,000 euros (£950,000) and 1,500,000 euros (£1,071,000) respectively – before local taxes – each model will cost more than double the price of the equivalent non-Edition car, but in addition to getting extra equipment as standard (including a lightweight exhaust, satnav and, on the CCXR, carbonfibre wheels), they also come with a five-year warranty and five years’ free servicing.

Just 14 CCX Editions will be built, and only six CCXR versions. The cars will make their debuts at the Geneva show in March.
