Peugeot RC Z
Peugeot RC Z to go into production

After debate and bluff, it looks like Peugeot's RC Z will make it into production

Will it? Won't it? After several months of speculation, a Peugeot spokesman has all but admitted that the 308 RC Z concept car, the company's take on the Audi TT idea, is to enter production this year. The finalised car will make its début at October's Paris show, with few changes from the concept car that evo drove back in January.

'We knew it couldn't be a no, so that means it has to be a yes,' said our source. 'We'll make an announcement in the next few days.'

The changes will be those needed for a production car, such as an all-steel body, a glass rear window (still with the double-bubble) and covered-in interior pillars able to incorporate airbags. The shape will stay the same, as will the carbonfibre roof and the 218bhp tune of the PSA/BMW 1.6-litre turbo engine. Pricing will reflect the RC Z's level of trim and equipment but will still be below 'premium' rivals – that TT, for example.
