Ford’s reinvented Mustang has been knocking around for around four years now, so it’s time for a refresh to keep up with the reinvented Dodge Challenger and Chevrolet Camaro.
These teaser shots reveal details of the car that’ll hit the roads shortly before the turn of the decade, although don’t bank on seeing it (officially) in the UK – despite Chevrolet’s apparent plans to bring it’s muscular Camaro across the pond in limited numbers. Costly personal imports it is, then.
If you are willing to splash the cash, then it’s good news. While the teaser shots Ford are circulating do exactly what they say on the tin, the dashboard photograph clearly shows a crank up in quality on the inside, while the front shot seems to show LED headlights, possibly housing some nifty daytime running lights to add some class to the Mustang.
There seems to be some inspiration from the Giogiaro Mustang from a couple of years ago, which is no bad thing. The bodywork appears a lot cleaner and, on the whole, looks smaller. Length and the width are staying the same – it’s essentially a heavy facelift, not an all-new model – but the stylists have worked their magic to make the 2010 pony look less bulky than the current car. A good idea in the increasingly green-conscious USA, which is starting to make the move into smaller cars.
There are no concrete details on engines or prices, but a cost hike would be unlikely, while there’s talk of Ford replacing thirsty V8s with tuned V6s, meaning an improvement in economy without a plummet in performance.
There seems to be some inspiration from the Mustang micro site
to drip feed more information and pictures before the car’s big reveal
at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. To get the latest, keep your
