Novitec Rosso 800bhp Ferrari 599: 800bhp Ferrari 599

Range-topping Ferrari gets upgrade courtesy of Novitec Rosso

The Ferrari 599 is a car that drew few criticisms from us, and one of them definitely wasn't lack of power. Nevertheless, one of the world's more exotic tuners has taken its magic wand to the super coupe and raised total output to 797bhp - rising from 611 - and twist is up 159lb ft to 607.

It's all achieved via mechanical supercharging of the car's 6-litre V12 engine, with twin compressors, a new specially designed intake manifold, injectors and air filter as well as custom exhaust manifolds and stainless steel quad exhaust, which has two settings - 'sporty yet discreet' and 'definitely sounds like racing'. Not particularly catchy names, but a neat touch - it's all adjusted via Ferrari's 'wheel mounted Manettino switch.

The whole engine package weighs in at c£40,000 - perhaps not too bad, considering the performance boosts that ensue. Acceleration sticks at 3.5sec for 0-62mph, however, with 0-124mph cleared in 9.7sec. There're some neat aerodynamic aids, including a front lip spoiler and rear diffuser, which fit neatly to the existing bodywork. They are joined by new, lighter alloys, 20in at the front and 21in at the back, which house 405mm Brembo brakes with six-piston calipers.

Novitec Rosso also provides height-adjustable suspension which can be owner-adjusted to suit the driver's needs - including a 40mm rise a the front to negotiate trickier speed bumps. As soon as you hit 50mph it reverts back to normal, meaning it can simply be flicked on for town driving then forgotten about.

Interior changes include an optional carbon fibre steering wheel (flat-bottomed, of course) and a blank canvas when it comes to interiors colour and materials. No prices for any of these other changes, mind... Get carried away and you could have one heck of an expensive - albeit exclusive - 599.
