World rally champ Loeb edges out Coulthard to take victory

Sebastien Loeb enjoyed a very tight Race of Champions victory at Wembley Stadium at the weekend, the recently retired David Coulthard ensuring the reigning WRC title-holder had to work very hard to take overall drivers honours at motorsport's end of season shindig.

It was Loeb's third win at RoC, other victories coming in 2003 and 2005. The final was in best-of-three format, the French driver taking leg one, Coulthard winning leg two before a tight as you like third leg which Loeb bested by just 0.3 seconds to take home the winner's trophy. It comes at the same time as rumours that Citroen's rally ace fancies a crack at F1.

Seven-times F1 world title winner Michael Schumacher was knocked out of the running in the very first round, but he did help Germany to the nations title alongside Sebastian Vettel. As usual, the contest was a nice mix of drivers, nationalities and vehicles. This years cars included the Abarth 500 (the Assetto Corso edition, no less), KTM X-Bow, WRC Ford Focus and of course, the RoC Buggy.
