Zagato is no stranger to gracing Geneva with stylish and striking concepts. 2009 is no different, with the Perana Z-One getting its big unveil at the Swiss show.
It's the result of a collaboration with South African car maker Perana Performance Group, and if the projected numbers all stack up it looks set to be quite the bargain - and stiff competition for the Porsche Cayman.
A price of 50,000 euros minus taxes (about £50K including current UK VAT) is forecast for a rather lovely looking coupe that houses an aluminium 6.2-litre V8 that's good for 434bhp and 430lb ft. A low 1195kg kerb weight leads to 324bhp/ton, a sub 4sec 0-62mph time and 100mph in less than 10sec. It has a mid engine, rear-drive layout as well as near 50/50 weight distribution. Combined with Eibach springs, Bilstein dampers and a ZF limited-slip diff it promises a pretty good drive too. Zagato describes it as exhilarating, balanced and predictable on the road.
It has been fully designed as a production car too, and not as a likeable concept that just disappears off the radar. Sales will be limited to 999 a year in Europe and the car even complies with Euro 4 emission regs. If the price stays close to that predicted £50K, it could be a hard car to beat.
