Zagato is again teaming up with Aston Martin, this time to produce a limited run of coach-built DB7s. The Italian styling house will show its interpretation of a shortened DB7 this summer - with a private unveiling in place of the planned announcement at Turin's now-cancelled motor show. The Zagato coupe will retain the 6-litre V12 of the DB7 Vantage but with a shorter wheelbase which should reduce weight. The finished car is expected to hit sixty in around 4.5sec and reach 190mph - figures to match the Vanquish. If the car gets a positive reaction, a limited production run of around 25 cars will commence. The last Zagato / Aston Martin collaboration, back in 1987, produced the V8 Vantage Zagato which was one of the fastest and most expensive cars in the world.

Meanwhile Aston Martin itself plans to launch a lightweight Speedster version of the DB7, specifically for the California market. The radical Aston will have no roof, a chopped down windscreen and a more basic interior. It will retain air-conditioning and leather sports seats but items like electric windows will be ditched to save weight. Up to 100 DB7 Speedsters could be built, though no RHD production is planned. The car will be launched at next January's LA show and is expected to cost slightly more than the standard car.
