Range Rover Evoque five-door revealed

Range Rover Evoque, the production Land Rover LRX, is revealed at Paris. New five-door version

The 2010 Paris motor show also sees the launch of the Range Rover Evoque. Bringing the LRX Concept into a production reality is the smallest, lightest and most fuel-efficient Range Rover model ever released.

The Evoque is set to have comfortably the most compact footprint of any vehicle in the history of the brand. This is set to be reflected in the Evoque’s eco credentials: Range Rover claim that 130g/km and 58mpg on the combined cycle should be achievable on the most frugal model.

Two 2.2-litre turbodiesels, with either 148bhp or 187bhp and a 237bhp, 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with twin variable valve timing will be offered from launch. The petrol will be mated to a six-speed automatic only, while diesels can be specced with manual or auto gearboxes.

The design enters the Evoque into the realms of the coupe/SUV, aiming to attract a new breed of customer to the Range Rover brand. Exterior styling is largely unchanged from the LRX concept, which will be seen by most as a good thing, and boldly advances the Range Rover design language several steps in one hit with its dynamic profile and athletic stance.

Continuing the brand evolution is the fact that the Evoque will be offered with both four and front-wheel drive to further push the boundaries of the modern Range Rover, while three and five-door variants are available, too.

The Evoque is set to be sold across the globe with three interior themes - minimalist, prestige and dynamic - and will be priced from £30,000 with deliveries starting in the summer of 2011.
