The early design sketches reveal that Maserati is keen to draw on its rich heritage with a bold grille reminiscent of the classic A6G models. However, there are also hints of the current Coupe and Spyder models, particularly in the broad rear haunches, sweeping C-pillars and the rear lights, ensuring a strong family identity.
The Quattroporte will also share the world-class 4.2-litre V8 currently found nestling in the nose of the Coupe. The 385bhp unit will feed power to the rear wheels exclusively through the sequential Cambiocorsa 'box.
Maserati is staking a lot in the Quattroporte, which must win sales from marques like Mercedes and BMW if it is to succeed. Maserati chief Luca di Montezemolo is determined that the new saloon will have build quality to match the very best that Germany has to offer.
