BMW's recently facelifted 1-Series will be the first model of the year to receive a new line-up of engines, as well as Coupe and Convertible 'Exclusive' and Sport Plus' models. The 3-series is also benefitting from an expanded engine range, which will be available from March.
Three new powertrains will be available from March, the 116d Efficient Dynamics, 125d and 125i. The 1.6-litre diesel in the 116d produces 116bhp and will manage 0-60mph in 10.5 seconds, emitting just 99g/km of CO2, with prices starting from £20,885.
With the introduction of the new engines comes the first M-Sport package available on the 1, with the 125d and 125i available to begin with. The 125d is actually a 2-litre four-cylinder diesel, with a two-stage twin turbo setup, producing 218bhp, with a claimed 0-60 of 6.5 seconds, but still returning over 57 mpg. The 125i introduces BMW's latest 2-litre TwinPower turbocharged engine to the 1-Series, producing identical figures to the diesel, 218bhp and 0-60 in 6.5 seconds.
The coupe and convertible 'Exclusive' and Sport Plus' models are two new special editions for the 1-Series, with enhanced standard spec. The Sport Pus model will come with 18-inch wheels, and a whole load of cosmetic changes. The Exclusive is based on the current ES model spec, coming with 17-inch 'Star-spoke' alloy wheels and Boston leather interior. Both special editions cost just £500 over the standard models.
