Return Of The GT3

Reports of a brand new 996 GT3 arriving later this year are being played down by Porsche. Engineers are working on a more powerful and focussed road car but don't expect to see it in 2002. Instead the car should appear in mid-2003, wearing an as-yet undecided badge

However, Porsche knows its customers very well and realises that simply sticking an RS badge on a slightly quicker 996 won't be tolerated. If they do decide to call the new model RS it's certain to be significantly lighter in the best Porsche tradition. Power is targeted at around 385bhp from a 3.8-litre evolution of the water-cooled flat six.
