Volkswagen has introduced the Polo R Line. Despite its ‘R’ badging - something usually reserved for VW’s high performance cars – it’s only available with the company’s turbocharged 1.2-litre TSI petrol engine.
Its 105bhp and 129lb ft help the car reach 60mph in 9.7sec, on the way to a modest 118mph top speed. Its green figures are impressive, with a claimed 53.3mpg and CO2 emissions of 124g/km. A six-speed manual gearbox is standard.
The R Line builds on the specification of the Polo Match, with the addition of styling touches inside and out.
On the exterior, the R line has a unique styling pack, consisting of sportier front and rear bumpers, a gloss black grille, deeper side sills and 16in ‘Mallory’ alloy wheels. Inside, there are sports seats and a leather trimmed steering wheel, both with R Line badging.
Standard equipment includes climate control, a tyre pressure monitor and remote central locking.
The Volkswagen Polo R Line is on sale now, with prices starting at £15,195 for the three-door, rising to £15,815 for the five-door variant.
