Lexus LF-CC racer unveiled

New Lexus LF-CC coupe racer showcases next generation hybrid Coupe model, based on the IS saloon

Lexus has unveiled the racing version of its LF-CC concept car. The racer will compete in the Japanese Super GT 500 series – racing against the recently revealed Honda NSX racer. The LF-CC racer will replace the current SC 430, which has won two championships since its debut in 2006.

Lexus first unveiled the LF-CC concept, a mid-sized hybrid coupe, at the 2012 Paris motor show. It’s said to influence the design and technology that will go into future Lexus models – hinting at a coupe version of the new IS model.

Power comes from a new 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, which is bolstered by a development of the company’s hybrid drive system. The engine is tuned for refinement and economy rather than performance, and Lexus says the car should be capable of less than 100g/km of CO2, just like the 99g/km IS300h.

The hybrid system combines a compact high-output electric motor, generator, and a high-performance battery. Power output has not been confirmed, but Lexus says that the car will produce 2bhp per gram of CO2, which puts it at about 200bhp.
