Volkswagen has confirmed prices and specifications for its new mk7 Golf GTI, which can be ordered in the UK now. In a first for the GTI, the model is available in two power levels from the factory: both models use a 2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 217bhp in the GTI and 227bhp in the GTI Performance. Both produce 257lb ft of torque and are available in either three-door or five-door form.
The base GTI starts at £25,845 - up only £195 from the previous mk6 Golf GTI - but most enthusiasts will want the GTI Performance. For a £980 premium, buyers will receive the extra power as well as a limited-slip differential and larger ventilated front and rear brake discs: 340mm front and 310mm rear (up from 312mm and 300mm respectively).
The only visual difference between the two models is the ‘GTI’ logo on the brake calipers of the GTI Performance.
Standard equipment includes 18in ‘Austin’ alloys, bi-xenon headlights and a rear diffuser. Inside, the sports seats are trimmed in the GTI’s familiar tartan ‘Jacara’ cloth. Optional extras include a six-speed DSG twin-clutch gearbox, Adaptive Chassis Control (ACC), leather seats and 19in 'Santiago' wheels.
