Ford's two-seat, 6.4-litre V10, 605bhp, aluminium-bodied Shelby GR-1 concept is inching towards production and could replace the Ford GT when that car ceases its run at the end of 2006.

The GR-1 uses a modified version of the GT chassis and is more likely to appear in V8 form, priced at around £70,000, if Detroit feedback is favourable. Rivals will include the Corvette ZO6 and Chrysler Firepower.
