Lexus revealed the new generation of the IS at Geneva, the first update of the rear-drive 3-series rival since its launch in 1999. There will be two models available initially, the auto-only IS250, fitted with a 2.5-litre V6 producing around 200bhp, and the IS220d with a 2.2-litre 4-cyl turbo diesel boasting 175bhp and 295lb ft of torque, which marks the first time a diesel has been fitted in a Lexus. Prices will start at around £20,000 and the IS250 will hit showrooms this November, with the diesel following in early 2006.
Meanwhile, Toyota will sell a limited run of 250 supercharged Corolla T Sports in the UK. The engine develops more than 200bhp and much more torque than the current car and may yet find its way into the Lotus Elise 111R.
