Audi's commitment to building genuinely exciting performance cars takes another leap forward with the new TT Coupe quattro Sport. Based on the 225, the Sport has more power (now 237bhp at 5700rpm) and by deleting the tiny rear seats and the spare wheel there's a 49kg weight reduction. The Sport costs £29,355, about £2K more than a regular 225, which sounds reasonable given the power increase and retuned suspension that's said to improve the TT's balance and grip. In the place of the rear seats there's a brace bar that increases torsional rigidity to further sharpen handling, and there are wider, 18in rims to aid directional stability. Audi claims 0-62mph in 5.9sec.

The Sport is distinguished from the rest of the range by its black roof, the sports styling package from the 3.2-litre V6 TT, competition-style Recaros and alcantara-trimmed steering-wheel, as well as those unique 15-spoke alloys. The Sport goes on sale in the UK in May.
