Radical Heading For Le Mans

Radical has announced plans for its biggest project by far, a Le Mans prototype racer. The company has recruited Peter Elleray, designer of the Le Mans-winning Bentley, to work alongside resident designer Nick Walford.

Radical believes it can offer a competitive car for around half the price of the current LMP2 racers (projected cost for Radical's rolling chassis is ΂£120,000, as opposed to ΂£295,000 for an equivalent Lola), by using an aluminium spaceframe chassis with carbon and aluminium panels. Elleray describes the project as being 'a completely different type of engineering challenge to designing an overall Le Mans winner', but is confident the car can win its class.

Power will come from a further development of the high-revving Powertec V8 engine found in the back of the SR8. This in-house powerplant will be enlarged to 3 litres and produce 525bhp.
