Honda Civic coupe

While Europe prepares for the launch of the radically styled Honda Civic five-door, the Americans get a slightly less adventurous-looking car, but have the addition of a two-door coupe in their line-up.

Previous American-inspired Civic coupes have been rather less than visually enthralling, but the new one, at least in its Si guise, is something we should all be clamouring for. Powered by a 2-litre i-VTEC four-cylinder engine giving out 197bhp at 7800rpm and driving the front wheels through a six-speed gearbox and a limited-slip differential, the Civic Si Coupe would make an excellent basis for the next-generation Civic Type-R.

Current word from Honda is that there are no plans to bring the Civic Coupe to the UK, but with the generation-before-last Civic the UK did get the two-door version, so don't count it out, especially if it takes off on the American sports car scene - Britain is globally recognised as a sports car-obsessed market, and if there's a buck to be made...
