A-Class heats up

It's not what you might call your regular hot hatch, but Mercedes has dropped a 190bhp four-cylinder turbo into the A-class to create the A 200 Turbo, claimed to get from standstill to 62mph in 7.5sec on its way to a top speed of 141mph.

Available in three- and five-door bodyshells, the A 200 Turbo is identifiable by its 18in AMG alloys, twin tailpipes and matt silver grille. It also has 'sports' suspension that drops it closer to the ground.

The potent baby Benz costs ΂£20,695 for the three-door and ΂£21,295 for the five-door. And in a sure sign that it probably isn't such a wild child of a hot hatch, the A 200 Turbo's insurance rating is a worryingly reasonable 14E.
