No such problems for secondhand Ferrari Enzos, values of which continue to climb on a monthly basis. More surprising are the soaring prices of McLaren F1s. Not so long ago about £400,000 seemed to be the going rate for one of Mr Murray's finest; a tatty racer once went for just £250,000 at auction. Now, however, F1 road cars fetch £1million-plus, with race cars in the region of £800,000. But to reach big money your McLaren must be in original condition; the addition of Le Mans racer-style body upgrades in particular will knock huge chunks off its value.
Buying your McLaren is just the start of the expense though. The fuel tank requires replacement every five years (many are now due the work, being ten years old), a job that consumes 100 hours of labour. It's a similar story with the Ferrari F40; if its F1-style bag fuel tanks haven't already been replaced, then they will need to be soon, and that involves dismantling much of the car...
