Chrysler rises to challenge

Doubtless inspired by the new Ford Mustang's success in making muscle-car retro commercially viable, Chrysler will reveal this Challenger concept at the Detroit show in January.

A modern homage to the Dodge Challenger muscle-cars of the 1970s, the concept uses the underpinnings of Chrysler's current 300-series line-up that includes the 300C, Magnum and Charger. There's no official word on what engine the Challenger will use, but as the 300C currently runs with a 5.7-litre Hemi V8 and is due to get a 6.1-litre V8 next year in its SRT guise, one of that pair seems a fair bet.

Given the readily available running gear and Chrysler's recent history of turning concept cars into production models, expect to see a road-going Challenger rumbling around the streets of the States in the near future.
