Hotrod reveals Volvo's wild side

In an effort to further enliven its safe, staid image, Volvo unveiled this wild concept at the recent SEMA show in Las Vegas. Hand-built using bits raided from the Volvo parts bin and called the T6 Roadster, it takes its inspiration from a 1950s dragster.

Overtones of Prowler, but T6 Roadster shows Volvo has a sense of humour
The engine is a twin-turbo 2.9-litre straight-six borrowed from an S80 saloon, which despite appearances sits aft of the cockpit; it drives the rear wheels through a five-speed Geartronic transmission. The rear decklid lifts up to aid cooling when things get hot in the engine bay.

Braking on the T6 is handled by monster six-piston callipers clamping 330mm discs, and they lurk behind 20in wheels at the front and 22s at the rear.

Inside, the seats, instruments, gearshift handle and pedals are all taken from an S80 while the steering wheel is lifted from an S60 - doubtless with its airbags still intact.
