As well as the 1: 4 scale models you see here, the students had to present a series of sketches showing both the inside and the outside of their creations. The designs had to retain the 'recognisable features and values of the Ferrari marque', but other than that the students were allowed total creative freedom.
The results, as you can see, drew as much on Ferrari's heritage and racing cars as they did on current design themes. Two of our favourites were the Lauda (click on images for identification) which has more than a hint of the 250 LM's cockpit about it, and the 'Testarossa' concept, which particularly impressed our own design team. Although the Enzo is an obvious influence for many of the models, this perhaps says more about the cutting edge nature of Maranello's current supercar than it does about any lack of imagination on the part of the students.
Of the four winning designs, particular mention should be made of 'Fiorano'. It emerged from the Coventry University School of Art & Design and was created by Rob Battams and Tom Hardman, both from the UK, and David Imai from the US. Of the other three winning designs, two were from Turin and one from Tokyo. All of the winning designers will now be offered work experience at either Ferrari or Pininfarina's Concept Designs Department.
