Heavyweight Hartge 3-Series

While BMW toils away developing a new V8 for the next-generation M3, Hartge has gone a step further and stuffed the M5's V10 under the bonnet of a current 3-series saloon.

For the H50 V10, Hartge has tuned the engine to give 542bhp, a hefty hike over the 501bhp of the donor BMW unit, although it has the same peak 384lb ft of torque as the M5. The H50 gets a reinforced rear axle and adjustable suspension. A trick exhaust is said to enhance the exhaust note, and the speed-limiter has been removed to allow the H50 to reach a claimed top speed of 199mph. A slatted bonnet and 20in rims are the visual clues to the car's potential, although for the full Q-car effect it might be fun to keep the car looking more standard.
