Lion regains its roar

This is the 207, the car with which Peugeot hopes to re-establish its credentials in the hot hatch market when the GTI version goes on sale in the UK late in 2006.

Utterly overshadowed by the Clio 172 and 182 over recent years, the notion of a sporting Peugeot should receive a massive boost thanks to the engine agreement the French manufacturer now has with BMW which means the 207 GTI will share engines with the next generation Mini Cooper and Cooper S.

As well as improved performance, handling should also be a cut above that offered by the 206 - the new model has substantially broader front and rear tracks and a significantly longer wheelbase.
