New Spider born of Brera

Alfa is mounting a style offensive with this Spider version of the Brera arriving hot on the tailpipes of the coupe. It's expected to be on sale in time for the summer and should cost around £27K, showing Alfa's determination to chase premium brands like BMW and Mercedes.

Called simply 'Alfa Spider' (not 'Brera Spider', note) sharply styled two-seater cabrio made its debut at the Geneva show
The Spider shares the Brera's underpinnings so will be available with either a 260bhp V6 or a 185bhp 2.2-litre four, both units driving the front wheels. Later there'll be the option of the rear-biased Q4 four-wheel-drive system for the V6-engined car.

The hood is electrically operated and stows beneath a neat cover aft of the roll-over hoops.

Although the Spider has a vestigial rear bench that could, at a squeeze, be used for a small, transverse-mounted passenger on a trip home from the pub, it's essentially a two-seater.
