Rinspeed wows again

It's a long-standing Geneva show tradition that Swiss firm Rinspeed displays a radical-looking concept car, and some are more bizarre than others - one year it was an aquatic sports car with hydrofoils to lift it clear of the water...

'Zen' part of zaZen name reflects car's aim of overlooking preconceived ideas
This year's offering, however, is both striking and innovative. Called the zaZen and using Porsche 997 Carrera mechanicals (and with more than a hint of the 911 in its overall lines), Rinspeed suggests that there's a chance of a very limited production run of the car. It has even ensured that the zaZen can be converted to run on natural gas, to make it more appealing to the green-minded Swiss.

The zaZen's transparent roof structure is made from an advanced polycarbonate similar to that used for radio-controlled cars, which is both far lighter than glass and can be moulded into more intricate shapes. High-level brake lamp duties are handled by a hologram. The car's bodywork is finished in what Rinspeed describes as 'crystal skin' and it is literally that - thousands of tiny Swarovski crystals embedded in a mirror-smooth sealant.
