Blown Exige in production

Another day, another Exige derivative. This time it's the 'S', which is essentially a production version of the supercharged, limited- edition 240R, but with less power and torque - 218bhp and 159lb ft compared with 243bhp and 174lb ft - the reductions due to the need to comply with emissions and noise regulations.

In spite of this, Lotus claims that the Exige S is the company's quickest production road car to date, dashing to 60mph in 4.1sec.

If anything, the Exige S feels a bit quicker on the road than the 240R, and while hard data proves this isn't actually the case, the Lotus boys admit that the performance difference between the two cars only becomes telling at very high speeds. Prices for the Exige S start from £33,995.
