NSX replacement to be Aston rival

Honda is to abandon the supercar sector it once shook up with the mid-engined NSX and will instead build a front-engined, all-wheel-drive high performance GT in the mould of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage, according to sources.

The Japanese company has been testing two different prototypes, the other with a mid-engined configuration, but at a recent dealer conference, senior Honda personnel apparently let slip that the front-engined car had been given the go-ahead. It's likely to be powered by a 450bhp V10 engine driving all four wheels - but with a significant rear-bias - through a six-speed automatically operated manual.

The four-wheel drive will be a development of the Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system recently introduced on the Legend which in extreme circumstances can channel all the power through just a single wheel.
