Rally special hints at next GTI

This is the Peugeot 207 RCup, an 'off-the-shelf' rally car built to meet Super 2000 regulations. With a 280bhp naturally aspirated 2-litre four-cylinder engine driving all four wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox, it's yours for the eye-watering sum of £250,000...

You'll have to hold that image in your mind for quite a while, however, as Peugeot isn't yet revealing when the sporting 207 is due, except to say that it won't be until well into 2007 - by which time Renault should have cleaned up the market with the Clio Renaultsport 197...

To fill the gap until the 170bhp+ GTI arrives, Peugeot hopes to tempt hot - well, warm - hatch fans with a GT model powered by a 150bhp 1.6 turbo four developed in conjunction with BMW, who will use it in the next Mini.
The GT is due late this year.
