The facelifted 911 (997) has barely gone on sale, but already Porsche’s engineers are putting the all-new 998 model, due in 2011, through its paces!
Our spies caught the next generation 911 in action and a handful of subtle styling tweaks can already be seen. Firstly the trademark 911 front lights are less raked and stand more upright, while the wing mirrors have moved from the corner of the A-pillar to the side of the door. But the rear light assemblies can be ignored as they are only temporary.
Don’t be fooled by the taped-on rear wing either, giving the test car a 959-like profile, underneath lies the familiar self-raising spoiler found on standard 911’s. The stick-on fake air vents ahead of the rear wheels are also just an attempt at disguising the mule.
Expect the 2011 911 to use the same direct-injection flat-six engine as the current car, with a small power boost and an updated version of the dual-clutch PDK gearbox.
