Audi RS6

Audi's raised the bar with the new RS6, due for unveiling at next week's Frankfurt Motor Show

With 580bhp, the new RS6 is the most powerful model in the current Audi range and, with the exception of the Le Mans-winning Audi R10 TDI, it is the most potent Audi of all time.

The ten-cylinder V-configuration engine is based on V10 powerplants from the Audi S6 and Audi S8, but has been redeveloped to attain even higher performance. Twin turbos administer a constant stream of power and torque, so the drive should be an effortless and rewarding experience. Max torque is claimed at 650Nm.

With steroidal grunt from the V10, performance is predictably rapid. From rest 100km/h is reached in 4.6 seconds and 200 km/h in 14.9 seconds. Speed is electronically governed at 250 km/h.

Only available as an Avant to begin with, the RS6 will be launched in April 2008 for a basic price of €101,750 (incl. VAT) in Germany.

We look forward to trying it...
