MPG and Running Costs

A behemoth SUV with the option of a supercharged V8 petrol engine is never going to be a running cost champion, but there are concessions to fuel economy, with stop/start fitted to all models, while a hybrid variant is now offered and a version with a four-cylinder engine looks to be on the horizon.

Claimed fuel economy ranges from 44.1mpg for the hybrid version to 22.1mpg for the petrol V8; worth noting is that after 700 miles of mixed driving our V8’s trip computer was reading 22.9mpg, which even accounting for a little inaccuracy, shows Land Rover’s claims to be achievable.

CO2 emissions range from 169g/km for the hybrid to 298g/km for the V8. Predictably, that puts the petrol version in the uppermost tax band, which commands a £500 annual fee. The more popular SDV6 diesel is a friendlier £265 per year.

New for 2017 is the option of the JLR 2-litre SD4 Ingenium diesel engine. Utilised here in twin-turbo guise, it's capable of producing 45.6 mpg

All versions sit in high insurance groups, the lowest being 43, the supercharged V8 sitting one rung below the maximum, in group 49. This makes it no worse than its rivals, though. The manufacturer warranty lasts for three years with unlimited mileage, while the service interval is 15,000 miles.
