Interior and Tech

The AMG GT's interior makes a welcome change from the slightly dour approach taken by Porsche. It definitely feels like a very special place to be, although admittedly suffers somewhat from Mercedes' 'tablet' plonked in the middle of an otherwise beautiful setup.

The centre console is by far the best feature however. It has a clever button arrangement designed to evoke the shape of the V8 sat beneath the bonnet. Everything from driving dynamics to the exhaust is controlled via these 8 buttons, all of which have a typically premium look and feel.

The driving position too is also a highlight, it's nice and low, with a beautiful Alcantara wrapped steering wheel for you to rest your hands on. It's all about simple clean lines, but with enough unique touches to ensure the AMG GT's interior well and truly stands out.

Compared to rivals, the AMG GT feels just as quality inside as the best of the rest, but just that little bit more special. No doubt the Audi R8's digital dash that we've seen in the TT is special, but clever button placement and use of top quality materials makes the GT a very nice place to be.

Technology wise, Mercedes offers up one of the best in car entertainment systems in the business. The 8.4-inch COMAND system comes fully loaded, not requiring any extra options to add functionality.

The exhaust valves can be controlled dynamically using the dynamic select button on the centre console, which is a definite bonus. Sequential turn signals and LED running lights are definitely a nice touch. Intelligent cruise control and lane tracking make up the £1695 Driving Assistance Package.
