Performance and 0-60 time

The AMG GT is offered in multiple forms. In base AMG GT trim it puts out 456bhp from AMG's new 4-litre twin-turbo V8 alongside 442lb ft of torque and a 4 second flat 0-60mph time. Top speed arrives at 189mph.

Buyers can opt for the more powerful AMG GT S, which produces 503bhp along with 479lb ft of torque and a 3.7 second 0-60 mph time. The GT S tops out at a slightly higher 193mph. Both cars also feature various mechanical changes to seperate them out, but more on those later.

Sitting between the GT S and range-topping GT R is the GT C Roadster, a car that features components from both models, blurring the line between sports car and GT. With 549bhp, the car can sprint from standing to 62mph in just 3.7secs and onto a top speed of 196mph.

The AMG GT R takes performance up to 577bhp and 516lb ft of torque. That's thanks to a pair of new turbochargers that increase boost pressure from 1.2 to 1.35bar. As such, the 0-62mph time drops to 3.6sec and top speed increases to 198mph.

As for the numbers, they don't necessarily do the AMG GT's performance justice. This is a car which is well and truly about perception of speed, in that it feels much faster than it is through a combination of factors, including the low down seating position, the power and torque of the V8 and its exhaust note.

Sat low, with a long bonnet stretched out in front of you, the GT takes on an almost racecar like quality. Throw in the incredible exhaust note and you have a straight line experience that is difficult to match.
