SEAT Leon Cupra 300 review - More excitement than a Golf GTI? - SEAT Leon Cupra interior and tech

Easily the match of its rivals on paper, and entertaining to drive, but less exciting than some rivals

  • Serious pace and ability for sub-Golf GTI money
  • Lacks a little excitement

The cabin is unchanged from the outgoing model, so it feels solid and hard wearing but it lacks the design polish and overall build quality of the Golf – the group works hard to protect its carefully managed hierarchy.

Unfortunately, it also lacks some of the flair you might expect from a brand that trades so heavily on its old ‘Auto Emocion’ slogan – the Cupra’s cabin is unremittingly dark and while the general layout is pleasant enough it’s hardly a soul-stirring environment.

Luckily SEAT does a little better if you trust its current ‘Technology to enjoy’ slogan, since (like other cars of this size from the Volkswagen Group) the infotainment system is easy to use, and SEAT got a jump on many of its rivals by offering Apple CarPlay compatibility – the system’s big, clear controls on the touchscreen finally make these layouts as easy to use as good old-fashioned buttons.
