Audi RS3 Sportback review (2015-2017) - the definitive super-hatch? - Interior and Tech

A step up above its predecessor but still not as mighty as the spec sheet suggests

Evo rating
Price
from £40,795
  • Addictive noise, lighter on its feet than predecessor, quality
  • Not a big step up from Golf R or BMW M145i, still a shade sensible

Interior and Tech

Dish out extra for the optional 'RS3 style pack' and you can kit the RS3 out in Alcantara, putting it a step above the fairly standard albeit well built A3 interior.

It's definitely a nice place to sit, with fit and finish being of typical Audi standards. Whether or not all the added RS3 tweaks is enough to make it feel special over say a more affordable Golf R, is down to the individual. In our opinion, the RS3 feels little more than an S3 with added alcantara on the inside, which isn't great for a car with a near £40k price tag.

Tech-wise, the £750 Bang and Olufsen 14-speaker system ramps audio quality up a significant amount. Audi's own MMI nav system is very good and in the RS3 it sits in its most up to date guise. Optional in-car 4G further increases connectivity for those who want it.

Other than that, compared to say the latest-gen TT, the RS3 feels a few steps behind in terms of gadgetry but a step above your more conventional hot hatch when it comes to fit and finish. Some may prefer a fully specced up M140i from the inside.
