Bentley Continental GT (2011-2018) review – MPG and Running Costs

A great grand tourer but definitely no sports car

  • Bespoke interior, plenty of performance, refinement and comfort
  • Heavy, cheaper V8 is better than W12, tech now outdated

MPG and Running Costs

While Bentley might have introduced the twin-turbo V8 version of the Continental GT in order to offer up some sort of gesture towards efficiency, neither that, or the W12, deliver particularly impressive results in the real world.

You’ll struggle to see beyond 17mpg, even on the motorway, in a W12 powered Bentley, this despite its clever ability to deactivate half of its cylinders. The V8 is a similar story, not managing more than 20mpg at best.

This is all to be predicted really, as offering any sort of level of performance in a car as heavy as a Continental GT isn’t exactly going to be an exercise in efficiency.

As for running costs, a Continental GT can be had second hand now for a fairly decent price. Just bear in mind that this is a high-end premium car, with servicing and parts costs to match. On the flipside, Bentley offers excellent sales and servicing care, so don’t expect keeping your Continental GT fit and healthy to be too difficult.
